MagicKeepers-a great read for all ages

I was at the library looking for a book for story time with my daughter. My daughter is a young lady now and requires more complex subject matter when relaxing for bed,so,I went over to the young adults section to peruse the titles for a treasure that would both entertain my daughter and not bore me to tears. I found one although I didn't know it at the time, when I picked up MagicKeepers-The Eternal Hourglass,by Erica Kirov.I liked the description on the back about the main character,a 13-year-old boy,son of a infamous Las Vegas magician, whose life suddenly changes.Yes, but how,I thought. So, I read the prologue which was about Harry Houdini, and was hooked.I only hoped my daughter would be,too. I read to her about the boy in the book who discovers on his 13th birthday that he is a real magician from a very long line of magicans, going all the way back to the pharaohs. He is taken to live and train with a family he didn't know he had,to learn to protect magical relics from evil wraiths called Shaddowkeepers and the evil Rasputin. He learns that there is something he has that Rasputin wants and will do anything to get.
It's a really fun story and has historical characters, which I really appreciate. My daughter was fascinated to find out that some of the characters were real people. I love books like this that get kids interested in history! My daughter was sorry to be finished with the book but greatly relieved to learn that I had gone ahead and picked up the next one:The Pyramid of Souls.
On the back of The Eternal Hourglass,it say that if you love Harry Potter then this book is sure to be a hit. I don't think this book is as much like Harry Potter as it is Michael Scott's Nicholas Flamel series. He uses a lot of historical characters as well.
My daughter and I are greatly looking forward to starting on The Pyramid of Souls ,by Erica Kirov, tonight. I hope that my review of this book will get some of you interested in reading this series. It really is a fun story. Happy reading!
